Insight of the Day: Gen Z, millennials say purpose at the core of job satisfaction and wellbeing; expect AI to improve work-life balance

The 2024 Gen Z and Millennial Survey conducted by Deloitte sheds light on the evolving priorities and expectations of these generations in the workplace. Here are some key findings:

  1. Purpose-Driven Work: Nine out of ten Gen Zs and millennials consider purpose crucial for job satisfaction. They are likely to reject job offers or employers that do not align with their ethics and beliefs. This emphasis on purpose reflects a desire for meaningful work beyond mere financial compensation.

  2. Climate Action: The survey reveals a shift in career decisions among Gen Zs and millennials. They actively seek opportunities to drive climate action both professionally and personally. Concerns about the environment play a significant role in their choices.

  3. GenAI and Work-Life Balance: Over half of respondents express excitement about GenAI (artificial intelligence) impacting their work-life balance. They believe that GenAI will free up time for creative and strategic tasks. However, they also recognize the need for reskilling as GenAI influences career paths.

  4. Training and Sustainability: A majority of Gen Zs and millennials feel that their employers provide sufficient training on GenAI. Additionally, they advocate for sustainable initiatives, urging businesses to take climate-positive actions.

In summary, purpose-driven work, environmental consciousness, and the integration of technology like GenAI are shaping the expectations and behaviors of Gen Zs and millennials in the workforce.
