Consumer reluctance toward insect protein remains a significant challenge, primarily driven by feelings of disgust. According to a study, only 13% of respondents expressed willingness to consume insect-based products, while 47% outright rejected the idea, and 40% remained unsure. Interestingly, the level of disgust correlated with consumer willingness to eat insects, and powdered insect products were even more off-putting than whole insects. Overcoming this “disgust factor” is crucial for mainstream adoption of planet-friendly insect food.
