Music: Anti-Love Anthems: congratulations Fight for Freedom in "Fought 4 Love"

congratulations is an electrifying alt-indie quartet based in Brighton, UK. Known for their "punk rock Power Rangers" aesthetic—often appearing in matching primary-colored uniforms—the band has quickly made a name for themselves with a sound that balances 80s synth-pop, 00s indie, and modern experimental rock. The group consists of Leah Stanhope (vocals), Jamie Chellar (guitar), Greg Burns (bass), and James Gillingham (drums). They are signed to the prestigious Bella Union label and are currently gearing up for the release of their debut album, Join Hands, set for February 2026.

"Fought 4 Love" is a standout single that perfectly captures the band's self-described "meticulous debauchery." It is a high-energy track that kicks off with a floor-stomping, thunderous riff before evolving into a dance-rock masterpiece inspired by the likes of Devo, Prince, and Madonna.

Thematic Focus: Billed as an "anti-love song," the track flips the script on traditional romantic tropes. Rather than mourning a breakup, vocalist Leah Stanhope explores the liberation found in falling out of love. The lyrics reflect the realization that sometimes fighting for a relationship is a mistake, especially when you realize you "didn't even want it" in the first place. It celebrates the act of letting go, growing apart, and finally enjoying one's own company as a positive next step in life.
