Why it is trending: RIP Magic’s “5words” is generating serious underground buzz as their James Murphy-produced debut on DFA Records lands alongside a 12” vinyl release and a growing live presence across the UK and North America.
RIP Magic — comprising Marco Pini, Felix Bayley-Higgins, Beth Boswell-Knight and Pedro Takahashi — have unveiled “5words,” produced by James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem. Released via DFA Records, the track marks their first official label single following 2025’s self-released Loot / Dox. The band’s trajectory accelerated after Tyler, The Creator singled out their early demos during a DJ set in London, leading to appearances alongside acts like Chanel Beads, Lolina, Panda Bear and Fakemink, and support slots with Fcukers and LCD Soundsystem.
“5words” distills that downtown club energy into a sleek, minimalist groove — sharp, rhythmic and unmistakably New York in spirit. While supporting LCD Soundsystem last December, the band quietly sold unmarked white-label copies of the track, building mystique before its official drop. On March 6, DFA will release a 12” edition featuring a remix from Maurice Fulton, reimagining the track through a loose, piano-house lens rooted in classic NYC club culture. With a packed 2026 tour schedule — including UK headline dates and North American shows supporting Fcukers — RIP Magic’s “5words” feels less like a debut and more like an arrival.
