Streaming: Noise-Funk Swagger: Party Dozen's 'Mad Rooter'

Party Dozen is a Sydney-based noise-rock duo composed of saxophonist Kirsty Tickle and percussionist/sampler Jonathan Boulet. Their sound is an explosive, abrasive fusion of industrial, no-wave, and post-punk, built upon live improvisation and intense sonic experimentation. Tickle's saxophone is heavily processed through effects pedals, often sounding more like a snarling electric guitar than a typical horn, while Boulet provides a powerful, often tribal drum foundation layered with gritty, distorted electronic samples.

The track "Mad Rooter" is a potent shot of unhinged confidence and relentless, gritty momentum, derived from their philosophy of spontaneous energy. It was intentionally recorded without a click track, which gives the rhythm a lurching, off-kilter groove that the band describes as having an "off-grid pull and push". The song's theme is one of supreme, defiant confidence—feeling "10 feet tall" and invincible. The track’s texture is raw, featuring sounds sampled from a battered, half-broken guitar, which underscores the track's chaotic, yet strutting, "noise-funk" aesthetic. The overall result is a furious, visceral sound celebrated for its intensity and uncompromising attitude.
