Cowboy Hunters – Dust Caps: Glasgow’s Riotous Punk Breakout

Cowboy Hunters are Megan Pollock and Desmond Johnston — a Glasgow-based punk duo rapidly becoming one of Scotland’s most talked-about new acts. Formed after their previous band Choka split, the pair met at Edinburgh Napier University and built their reputation the old-school way: relentless live shows, chaotic stagecraft, and a loyal grassroots following across Scotland’s central belt.

They’ve supported Sleaford Mods, earned praise from Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand — who dubbed them “the coolest band in Glasgow right now” — and are part of a wider Scottish wave alongside Brògeal and Soapbox. Known for their unpredictable live energy, the duo can pivot from mosh pits to impromptu line-dancing within minutes, turning gigs into chaotic celebrations rather than conventional sets.

Their EP EPEEPEE captures that irreverent spirit — humorous, political, and defiantly unserious in tone while deadly serious in delivery.

“Dust Caps,” the closing track on EPEEPEE, encapsulates Cowboy Hunters’ manic blend of humour and defiance. The track pairs punchy, no-frills punk instrumentation with sharp, tongue-in-cheek lyricism that feels both playful and pointed. There’s an underlying tension between youthful optimism and sarcastic realism — summed up in the line: “Everything’s gonna be alright. NAHH!”

Musically, the song keeps things tight and explosive, driven by stripped-back drums and wiry guitar work that mirrors their raw live performances. It’s chaotic but intentional, capturing the band’s ability to make disorder feel exhilarating rather than messy.

“Dust Caps” is gaining attention as Cowboy Hunters ride a wave of industry buzz, bolstered by high-profile support slots, festival bookings at The Great Escape and 2000 Trees, and endorsement from established Scottish icons. Their explosive live reputation is translating into wider media coverage, positioning them at the forefront of a new Scottish punk surge. As grassroots hype spills into national recognition, Cowboy Hunters are fast becoming one of the UK’s most exciting underground breakouts.
