CHERYM are a three-piece pop rock band from Derry, Northern Ireland, known for their fearless attitude and infectious songwriting. The band consists of Hannah (she/they), Alannagh (she/they), and Emer (she/her), who formed after meeting in college over a shared love of garage rock and pop punk, along with a desire to challenge the male-dominated local music scene.
Their sound blends sharp hooks with punchy guitars, drawing influence from artists such as Charly Bliss, Bikini Kill, Sløtface, PUP, and Pixies. In 2021, they signed with Alcopop! Records and released their EP Hey Tori, followed by a headline UK tour. Their rapid rise included over 150,000 streams, eight performances at SXSW, and support tours with Nova Twins and The Beths across the UK and Europe. After signing with Marshall Live Agency in late 2022, they continued building momentum, culminating in the release of their debut album Take It Or Leave It on February 16, 2024.
CHERYM’s cover of “Boss Bitch,” originally by Doja Cat, reimagines the bold pop-rap anthem through a punchy pop rock lens. The original track, known for its swagger and unapologetic confidence, is transformed with distorted guitars, driving drums, and a riotous live-band energy that amplifies its defiant message.
By covering “Boss Bitch,” CHERYM align the song’s self-assured attitude with their own feminist, DIY ethos. The result is a high-voltage reinterpretation that feels both playful and confrontational, reinforcing their identity as a band unafraid to take up space and reshape mainstream pop culture on their own terms.
