Monday's Child - Over Again

Monday's Child have risen quickly since forming in Belfast in 2023. Comprised of sisters Lauren, Jen, and Clara McKay, the trio fuse anthemic alternative rock with shadowy harmonies and a raw-edged intensity that’s made their live shows electric from the outset.

Drawing on grunge, punk, psych, and indie rock influences, Monday’s Child have been tipped as one of Northern Ireland’s most exciting new acts — featured in Hot Press magazine’s “Hot for 2025” list and supporting major names like CRAWLERS, Pillow Queens, and Swim School. Their debut EP Modern Affair (May 2025) solidified their momentum with strong press coverage and international radio support.

“Over Again” leans into the band’s dynamic contrast — moody verses layered with tight sister harmonies, before opening into expansive, guitar-heavy choruses. There’s a push-pull between vulnerability and force, with the rhythm section driving the track forward while the vocals add emotional weight.

Thematically, the song captures repetition — emotional cycles, returning to situations you promised you’d leave behind, the ache of reliving something you can’t quite shake. It’s reflective without feeling resigned, intense without losing melody.

The grunge undertones give it grit, but the melodic hooks keep it accessible — a balance that feels central to the band’s identity.

Why It Is Trending: Northern Ireland’s New Wave of Sister-Led Alt Rock

There’s renewed energy around guitar bands coming out of Belfast, and Monday’s Child are at the forefront of that movement. Their blend of tight familial chemistry, harmony-rich vocals, and 90s-leaning alt textures taps into both nostalgia and modern urgency.

“Over Again” resonates because it feels authentic — emotionally direct yet sonically expansive. As audiences continue seeking bands that can translate intimacy into large-room energy, Monday’s Child stand out.

With packed-out shows already behind them and more music on the way, “Over Again” feels less like a single — and more like a statement of intent.
